Beaconsfield High School is a highly successful, happy and exciting girl’s selective school situated close to the centre of the beautiful, historic town of Beaconsfield in the south of the county of Buckinghamshire. The Post 

In recent years the Design and Technology Department has managed various educational changes effectively whilst maintaining very strong examination results. We seek an outstanding candidate to maintain and build upon this record of success and lead a dynamic team of teachers and technicians.  Subjects taught within the department include Art, Design, Food, Graphics and Textiles.  The Head of Design and Technology will take responsibility for the learning and teaching across the Key Stages and have an oversight of Art.

37 hours per week – All year round (consideration will be given to term time only with 2-4 weeks work within school holidays).

As Examinations and Admissions Officer you will be responsible for the timely administration, organisation and smooth running of public and internal examinations and management of the school’s admissions procedures for Year 7 to 11.   Further details are identified in the job description/person specification.  

The successful candidate will:  

  • Have the ability to be an exceptional member of staff with clear capacity and the desire to develop systems & processes
  • Possess a wide range of skills to support our staff, students, parents and community towards excellence
  • Be able to deal sensitively with a variety of situations with teachers, examination invigilators, students, parents and examination board representatives
  • Have the ability to be clear and assertive whilst remaining calm, composed, tactful and flexible is essential
  • Be highly skilled in office administration, the use of Microsoft Word and other Microsoft packages, such as Excel
  • Have a  working knowledge of SIMs and preferably SIMS Examinations

This is a new role for BHS.  As a Lead Practitioner in our successful English department, you will have additional time (on top of the allocation towards PPA and teaching) to make the learning and teaching of the English department even better than it is now and bring excitement into English across the classes.  Our Head of English is keen for this role to focus on best practice within the classroom as it is a very collaborative department that believes in creating the conditions for best progress.

Teacher Training places 2018-19

ASTRA SCITT

Applications for 2018 / 19 recruitment are open through UCAS. (www.ucas.com).  

Bursary-led / fee funded places will be available at Beaconsfield High School in Art and Design, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Drama, English, Geography, History, Maths, MFL (French & Spanish), Music, PE, Physics and Religious Studies.  Places will also be offered in a wide range of subjects and phases across the Astra Alliance schools.

The Astra Alliance has been awarded status as a School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider (see Bucks Examiner article), working with the Institute of Education (UCL) for the PGCE qualification to provide high quality training placements. During the training year, all trainees will have the opportunity to spend time in at least one other of our partnership schools to ensure a contrasting and comprehensive experience. The Alliance has considerable experience of training teachers and recognises and values the enthusiastic contribution that they make to our school communities. Staff at the training schools will share their knowledge and good practice to ensure that trainees are well supported to develop into good and outstanding teachers.

The programme is structured to allow trainees to develop the skills required to teach the subject that they are training in and to develop specific expertise for making a distinctive contribution to practice in their setting.

NMAPS SCITT (Maths and Physics)

We are delighted to be working with The National Maths and Physics School Centred Initial Teacher Training programme (NMAPS), a new DfE initiative designed to give Maths and Physics trainees the best experience during their ITT.  Training will be based in school with bespoke subject specialist training programmes, delivered by outstanding practitioners and in conjunction with national subject associations.   On successful completion of the programme, trainees will be awarded both QTS and PGCE.
