Y12 Students Attend Women of the Future Reception
Five Year 12 students went to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for a Women of the Future reception hosted by Lloyd’s Bank. It was an impressive venue. A panel of professional women gave inspirational talks on how their careers had developed after school and university. Speakers included Karen Price CMG who is Chief Operating Officer, Foreign and Commonwealth Office who talked about her career as an ambassador all over the world; Dr Jenna Meinecke, who is a Research Fellow of Christ Church College, Oxford, who spoke about her career ambitions to be an astronaut and Annie Zadie, who is training to be a professional football coach. Sir Simon King gave a talk about how women are developing high-level careers in the Diplomatic Service. The students then networked with professionals from a range of careers.
The Women of the Future Ambassador’s Conference 2016 was a fantastic opportunity to listen to and make connections with women who have excelled in their fields and have been made ambassadors for women in industry and in society. One of the most striking aspect of this conference was evident in the mind-set that was common to all ambassadors; their vision and resilience transcended field and occupation, which was testament the message of empowerment through ambition and drive that underpinned the event. The ambassadors’ eagerness to advise and motivate when conversing was very encouraging, and while their level of achievement was extremely impressive, the range of fields represented was also eye opening to the diverse range of career opportunities in the modern world. Overall the conference was an inspiring experience and a great opportunity to meet and connect with Women of the Future.
