Student competes in English Schools Championships

By Miss McGonigle

Anna Croft ran in the 400m hurdles at the English Schools Athletics Championships in Birmingham on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th July.

On Friday Anna competed in the heats of the 400m hurdles and ran excellently to qualify for the final on Saturday 9th July. The final was a quality packed event with most of the competitors ranked in the UK top 10, and all athletes running personal bests within 2 seconds of one another.

Anna lined up in lane 1 and ran a superb race, finishing 5th in a time of 62.3, very close to her personal best. This is Anna’s first year in the U20 category, so as one of the youngest she is showing outstanding potential and to finish 5th in this prestigious final is an amazing achievement.

The winner of the event is already competing for England in the Europeans so that shows you how strong a final it was. We as a school are very proud of all Anna's hard work and dedication to her training, as well as her studies, that have enabled her to achieve such amazing results.

A huge congratulations to Anna from the PE department and all at Beaconsfield High.
