Bucks County Cross Country Championships
On Wednesday 3 February students from year 7-13 took part in the Bucks County Cross Country Championships at Hughenden. The course was traditionally tough with hills, the stream and mud but for once the sun did shine! All runners completed their races which is an achievement in itself given many runners drop out finding the hills too much. The girls were outstanding in their running and team spirit on what is a long, tough day for them all.
You need 4 for a team in cross country and as the students get older the keenness to run can be reduced, however, we do still have some aspiring cross country runners in the older year groups and to enable the Year 10-13 to have a team two students took part against despite the fact they now do short distance athletics - Sophie Willis and Anna Croft - their team spirit and desire to help their peers is an admirable quality. All the teams did very well and finished within the top half of the schools there. Three of our runners also had some fantastic individual success qualifying for English Schools Cross Country, which is the top race in the England. On the day we also took with us numerous sports leaders from Y12 and Y13 who were much appreciated and spoken of very highly by the officials organising the event - thank you to all of them too. Well done to all involved.
