50th Ball raises record amount

Beaconsfield High School last Saturday hosted a sensational ball to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, welcoming more than 200 guests and raising over £16,000 for the school’s critical upgrade of its astro pitch – smashing its £10,000 event target in the process.

The event, sponsored by Gerrards Cross solicitor and community supporter BP Collins, included champagne on arrival supported by local premium kitchen showroom Halcyon Interiors, fine dining and an evening of live music by local band (and parents) Chemistry. Guests were treated to surprise performances by Sharpe Academy of Theatre Arts, who successfully pulled off a flash mob posing as waiters before breaking into song, with a track from their latest production Legally Blonde.

The hall was completely transformed by the ball’s decoration team who, following the theme of gold, white, blue and ‘sophistication’ managed to create a space that felt completely removed from school life, even though small touches included science test tube stands and flasks for table decorations, and wooden spoons from Food Tech to act as auction paddles.

Some of the school’s remarkable musical students performed in a string quartet during the welcome drinks and on the piano during dinner, helping to set the tone of sophistication and elegance.

Guests took part in a live auction, which included priceless items including sold out Adele tickets, a Harry Potter First Edition signed by Daniel Radcliffe and a custom-made suit by Clements & Church. In total, 27 items raised more than £7,000 for the school – a fantastic amount and many happy bidders.

The school launched its next Signature campaign at the event – the complete refurbishment and upgrade of its 25 year old astro turf. This is a vital part of the school facility for all students, but also brings in additional income as a leased facility for external hockey and football clubs. The overhaul will ensure the students receive an improved learning experience, and will enable the school to market the facility to a wider external audience.

Rachel Smith, Headteacher, comments: “With the reality of cuts to school funding continuing to bite, the collaboration of the school community and our loyal local supporters is essential in ensuring we can offer an advanced experience for our students. Our 50th Anniversary celebrations have been so wonderfully supported and a fantastic reflection of how far the school has come, and I am certain we will continue to see further evolution as we work with our community to create a remarkable learning environment.”

Simon Deans, Senior Partner at headline sponsor BP Collins comments: “I was born and educated in Buckinghamshire and it is vitally important for businesses like ours to support local schools as they develop our children to be the future workers, politicians, artists, engineers, entrepreneurs and business leaders of our country. Having celebrated our firm’s 50th anniversary last year we are delighted to be supporting Beaconsfield High School as they celebrate theirs.”
